Mutant Disease is Killing off Tasmanian Devils

|

The Tasmanian Devil is being decimated and is expected to be extinct within a decade if drastic measures aren't taken. In 1996, a mutant disease was found among these cute, but ferocious animals and in some cases, 70% of the populations have died since.

Tasmanian Devil

This illness began with one Tasmanian Devil and is as fatal as AIDS. The Tasmanian Devil is known for biting and it appears that is how the disease is spread. Malignant tumors form on the face and grow to the point where the animal can no longer eat and its jaw rots. Attempts are being made to preserve this species by removing healthy colonies into Australian zoos. Only the future will tell what the outcome will be for the Tasmanian Devil. I applaud efforts to save it, but also can't help but wonder if this isn't simply us getting in the way of the natural order of things.

If you are ever looking for more animal facts you can find just about any known fact online so searching for facts online is great. Not only can you get animal facts but you can attain all kinds of facts and information.
