Diet Strategy and a Yummy Chocolate Shake!
I have been working on losing weight (again). For the first time I have tried to go for the realistic goals. My goal is to lose one pound a week. If I lose more than that, I get to do the happy dance. I figured out how many calories I would need to eat to maintain my current weight, then I subtracted 500 calories a day to lose the 3500 calories a week that makes up a pound.
I can't exercise right now due to knee problems. It is possible as I lose weight that I will be able to walk more or use our elliptical machine, or maybe I will have to have surgery, but regardless, I have to focus on less intake, not more activity for right now.
I get hungry later in the day. I am not so hungry in the morning. I try to get (4) 350 calorie meals a day and that leaves a little extra if a meal goes over or I want a small bedtime snack. I have breakfast, lunch, an afternoon snack and supper.
I only weigh once every two weeks. I give myself the opportunity to have one non counted calorie meal during each week (a night out, a reunion, a birthday party). I include something chocolate every day. Chocolate pudding is often my nighttime snack. A yummy chocolate shake is my afternoon snack every day I am home. And I have discovered I can have a large box of dark chocolate covered raisins for 360 calories. I have one once a week when I go to Food Lion.
How to make the shake:
1 Scoop Chocolate Slim Fast Optima (this works well for me too because of the added protein)
1 cup of 1% milk
1 banana
1 cup ice
1 blender
1 glass
1 straw
I put in the peeled banana, pour in the milk, add in the Slim Fast, then add in the ice and blend it right up! This comes up to 330 calories and makes about a 24 oz shake. I get in my chocolate, my favorite fruit, and I feel postively wicked because it is like a milkshake!
I also write down my calories, otherwise I tend to go overboard. And I drink at least 8 glasses of water, often 12-16. We have the best water here!
So far, I have lost 8 pounds in the last four weeks. Maybe this will help you too.
