Haiku Carnival with Prizes
Please note this is a sticky post and will be at the top of my blog until September 30th. Just scroll down for my more recent entry.
I love Haiku. I was introduced to this form of poetry when I was in high school. Previous to that I mostly wrote free form poetry, but once I learned of Haiku, I switched to that. To me, Haiku is powerful in its beauty and simplicity.
If you are not sure what Haiku is you can check out the Wikipedia definition. Basically, Haiku is three lines of poetry. The first line has five syllables, the second has seven syllables, and the thrid has five syllables. Traditional Haiku revolve around nature, modern haiku cover all kinds of topics. Personally, I prefer haiku that deals with the natural world, though I have written some that are modern.
Here is another good website I found with lots of information.
So here is what I would like to do...
I would like to read your haiku! And I would like to share mine. Mr. Linky is below and just waiting for you to share links to your Haiku. And to sweeten the pot, I will have a random drawing on September 30th. Then I will award four prizes to people who have linked up to my Haiku Carnival. I am sorry, but I can only send the prizes to U.S. addresses, but if you live overseas and want to share your haiku, I would love to have you link up!
So here are 18 of my haiku:
A lavendar bloom
cloaked in drops of morning dew
bows in reverence...
***
Synchronicity:
nature reigns the universe
correlating all.
***
Black ribbon unfolds
before me, leading me to
exotic new lands.
***
Colors bursting forth
bringing smiles to passersby
spring and hope abound.
***
Tiny suns bursting
forth from a canopy of
green: Dandelions.
***
Surprise arctic winds
carressing tepid waters
giving birth to steam.
***
Moonbeams capering
over dewy fields, chasing
creatures of the night.
***
Playing peek-a-boo
with the stars, gliding swiftly
between clouds: the moon.
***
On the ridge above,
leaves rustle, rocks slide; stillness.
looking: I see deer.
***
Babbling brook, laughing
while winding its crystal clear
way through quiet hills.
***
Quivering young wings
preparing to unfold and
attempt their first flight.
****
Fragile green trembling
under its cold coat of white:
winters' kiss goodbye.
***
Within each heart, a
flower grows, which once mature
blossoms eternal.
***
When we parted, the
mountains crumbled, the oceans
died and the skies wept.
***
Like unfurling rose
petals reaching for the warm
sun, our love blossoms.
***
Time: an abstraction
in which humans claim their worth
to the Universe.
***
Flying over a
valley of clouds, an eagle
surveys his domain.
***
Flowers bloom as peace
descends upon sunken land
Serenity reigns.
***
Here are the prizes that 4 lucky winners will get! These books are all brand new and you can either keep them for yourselves or give them for gifts this upcoming holiday season!

Haikus can be fun as well as very thought provoking.
I posted mine over on my blog

Girl, you are giving me homework, my mother is the poem writer....although I'd like to get my hands on one of those cross-stitching books.
God Bless,
Amber
LOL, Amber! A little homework is good for us moms too. But if your mom wants to provide you with haiku and you two share the prize if you win, that's okay too. Actually, kids can help their moms out on this one if you have a child talented in this area....I just love haiku...what can I say?
Oh my. I stink at this stuff. If I come up with anything, I will let you know.
Haiku is so fun
Going to write one now.
Will post link later...

I just wanted to stop by and thank you so much for your prayers. They are so appreciated right now.
I should have some idea of what is going on by tomorrow night.

FYI, I'm still trying to think of one. I think I'm semi-determined to.

Ok, so I couldn't resist. I wrote a post about baking cookies about a week ago, and ended the post with a haiku. I rather liked it, anyway.
Oh, and I also just posted a semi-relevant limerick here. Hope you enjoy.... :)
I love Haiku's.
