Idiocracy

My husband is TiVO crazy. He goes through the channels looking for movies that peak his interest, then when we have time, we watch them. Many of them are movies we have never heard of and about 1/2 of the time, they actually turn out to be pretty good.

One such recent surprise good movie was Idiocracy. This satirical movie provides plenty of food for thought! It begins with an average guy and an average gal being involved in a program where they will be frozen for a year, then revived to see how it all comes out. They were picked because they were average, and they weren't contributing much to society.

At the beginning of the film you see the main character being fussed at by his superior officer about how when he is told to 'lead, follow or get out of the way,' he shouldn't always pick the get out of the way option!

Anyway, the experiment goes amuck and the two average people don't wake up for over 500 years! In the meantime the rest of the planet hasn't fared too well...The smart people waited to have children (wanted to be financially secure, wanted to feel like society was secure and wanted their relationship to be great) and often ended up not having children. The less intelligent bred like rabbits and passed on their less intelligent genes.

So when the two average people wake up five hundred years into their future, it turns out that they are the smartest people on the planet!!!!

This movie is rated R and it is based on stereotypes. But the possible future it points out for us is not pretty and one we might want to think about a little! Check it out and see what you think! I would love to hear from you.
