Works For Me Wednesday: Adding income to our Single Income Family
Join Works for Me Wednesday over at Rocks In My Dryer and share something that helps your life get along a bit easier.
For my contribution, I am going to share how I add some extra income to our Single Income Family. I love being a SAHM and a homeschooler. I wouldn't give up these moments with my children for anything. But, I don't like laying all of the financial burden at my husband's door. Plus I want to teach my children a good work ethic and I like having 'my own money' for extras or when Daniel is between contracts, my income helps keep us afloat.
So here are the things I do to make extra money.
I have recently signed up for PayPerPost and you can read my previous entry about what that entails. And if you click the link at the bottom of this post, you can take advantage of this great opportunity too!
I have been writing ad copy for over a year for a local company in my home town. This company sells items on Ebay for other people. I only make 3.00 an ad, but I can generally do 4 or 5 ads in an hour and depending on how many ads they need written up in a week, I bring in an average of $100.00 a week.
I have been selling on Ebay for a long time. I started out with the help of my friend Carole . I have made income by purchasing books at library sales, auctions, and yard sales and then reselling them on Ebay. I have also sold vintage toys, used children's clothing, homeschool curriculum, and other collectibles. This last year, I added on selling for friends. I take 25% and I do all the work, photographs, research, ad writing, answer questions and mailing the items. I have made a few hundred dollars this way in the last year (selling for just three friends). I like selling other people's stuff the best, because the only money I am putting out on the front end is listing fees and my time. I am also very particular about what I choose to sell. If my research indicates that there isn't a likely chance of selling it for at least $9.99, I say so and then I either return those items or donate them as the person wishes.
Having a yard sale. I currently have our whole house under inspection to get rid of items we don't need. I have told the children that they get to keep all the money they make from any of their stuff they sell. This has helped them to declutter more than any other tactic I have tried. We live in a rural area (a small subdivision with a gravel road). I am going to contact all of my neighbors to see if I can get the interested in doing a yard sale the same day...so we can get more traffic for all of us when I post the ad about 'Sudivision Wide Yard Sale' or Mulitiple Family yard sale.
I have also used some ads, though I try not to clutter up my blog too much. I went to Google Ad sense and signed up and you will see there are a few google ads around my blog. So far I am not making much money with these, but have earned a couple of dollars and as I put more content on my blog and get more clicks, I hope that number will rise. What I like most about Google Ad Sense is that the ads they put on the blog echo my content 9 times out of 10.
And lastly, I have tried doing some Amazon advertising. I decided I didn't care for their banners as the books weren't always ones I would want to have seen on my blog. But I do like to post reviews of books or movies I enjoy and I will often through in an Amazon link, just in case the reader wants to get their hand on a copy right away. So far, I haven't made any money this way.
Tune in next week and I will share other ways I help add to our financial abilities!

Thanks for all the tips! SAHM here as well...I've done several you listed (except payperpost--they want 90 days on your blog before you get to pick sponsors.) We do Craigslist as well, for items that would cost too much to ship using ebay.
I've been contemplating Google AdSense as well, but I worry that I don't have enough site traffic to bother (except for WFMWs, I get about 10 hits a day, almost all family or friends).
I'd be interested in your opinion on whether or not I should do it.
