Amelia Island - One of the Top 10 Island Getaways in America

|

Right now, I, along with most of the people I know are busy dreaming of a White Christmas. We are looking for, praying for and hoping to have some of the white stuff float down from the sky so we can have our Norman Rockwell Christmas. I know there are some who are already dreading the first falling flake and are dreaming about sunny warm days to come in the months ahead. But for right now, I think most people are dreaming of snow.

However, human nature is a twisted thing. We want what we can't have. When it is summer, we dream of cooler days. When it is cold we long for sun and surf. So by January or February, many of those who were dreaming of snowy days in December will be turning their thoughts to summer vacations. Why wait until summer? Why not enjoy a lovely getaway this winter and take advantage of Amelia Island's Lodging Special. Currently, they are running a special at 12 participating hotels, bed and breakfasts and inns where if you purchase a two night stay, you can get a third night free. Reservations are required and black out dates apply, but you can only find those by checking out the lodging that appeals to you. This promotion is good from now until February 29, 2008.

Personally, I always like to do something special with my husband for Valentine's Day. Some years we have been able to arrange for the kids to be away and we just hung out at home in the peace and quiet. Some years, we have gone away for an overnight trip, just the two of us. I think it would be positively lovely for us to visit Amelia Island for a long weekend.

Amelia Island has been voted one of the Top 10 Island Getaways in Amercia by Conde Neste Readers (a magazine devoted to travel). Amelia Island has much to offer to visitors. Enjoy the historical aspects and southern charm. Spend your weekend relaxing on the beach, riding horses, or maybe learning how to do something new. Definitely an enticing place for a romantic (and warm) getaway!

As I mentioned earlier there are 12 different lodges participating in this promotion. So I went to check some out...ever curious, that's me.

I looked at Hampton Inn and Suites, because I have a hubby who likes to go with the modern place and all the conveniences, so I knew I should at least look at it. Plus we have always received great service whenever we have stayed at a Hampton Inn and Suites. And as I expected, there were lovely amenities to be had and I am sure we would enjoy a stay there.

However, Valentine's is all about Romance and I prefer staying in Bed and Breakfasts and neat Inns. There were several to choose from, but I picked two.

First I took a look at the Hoyt House (I went to school with a gal whose last name was Hoyt, so I figured it was a good place to start).

Isn't this place beautiful!??? And there are gardens, a wrap-around porch, ocean breezes, a heated pool and more...and that's just at the Hoyt House! There are plenty of things to enjoy such as bike riding and fine dining. And they even supply you with robes, towels and beach chairs! Book me a room!

But wait, I shouldn't go with the first place I like. I also looked into Amelia Island Plantation. I love places with the word "plantation" in them...it's so...well, southern!

Wow! Look at the size of this place! Look at those pools! And because it is a resort, a lot of the activities are right on sight. A fitness center, a spa, bicycling, nature programs, tennis courts...

Okay, they are all beautiful, but my choice is The Hoyt House! Don't like one of these? There are 9 other options to choose from! So do something special this winter (either for Valentine's Day, another special day or just to celebrate being alive and in love. Honey, I hope you are reading this!!!!
