Area Rugs - An Inexpensive and Attractive Fix

| | Comments (1)

Three years ago, we remodeled my daughter's room. I was envisioning pinks and purples (her favorite colors). I found beautiful fairy wallpaper and border that I loved and in the right colors too...but she wasn't having any of it....Nope, she chose beige wallpaper that went with the beautiful border full of baby big cats (tigers, lions, leopards...). That's my daughter, the girly Big Cat lover. We affectionately call her the Jungle Princess.

So, then it was off to the carpet store. We ended up with the perfect matching carpet (unfortunately not the best for a child's room). It is beige with little speckles in it. The sales lady assured me that the little speckles would help hide dirt...but they don't hide the stain from when Maggie (our golden retriever) came to live with us and peed on the floor and then I used the wrong kind of cleaner to clean it up with. They don't hide the pink stain from the kid's makeup kit that Katrina was given...so now I am thinking an area rug might be the answer. One day we will want to move. I can shampoo the carpet, but then it will get dirty again. An area rug over the main area would help protect the main carpet. Perhaps something in a nice animal print!

There are other areas in our house that could do with lovely Area Rugs. Our den is one of two rooms that has not been recarpeted in the 14 years that we have lived here. Partially because we were busy working on all the other rooms and partially because recarpeting the den means moving two desks (with computers), a long two drawer wooden filing cabinet, 3 bookshelves full of books, a piano, and a cabinet for homeschooling stuff...to recarpet means moving all of that stuff and finding a place for all of that stuff....a huge undertaking! But it is also the most walked through room in the house and the carpet is literally gone in spots. Something must be done. This would be another perfect spot for a lovely area rug...something bright and cheery with some blues to it would work nicely. Our bedroom only has about 3 feet of exposed rug and that carpet is holding up okay, so I am not too worried about it.

The living room and dining room share the same parquet floor. We installed that in 1998. It really brightened up the house, but it has not worn well. Furniture being slid across the floor, hotwheel battles, and Maggie have all taken their toll. Pluss, the floor is chilly. An area rug or two in here would hide a myriad of imperfections. Maybe something warm and traditional. So, do you use area rugs? And if so, what are their purpose?

Melissa, when we finally moved to our new place this year, we made sure we upgraded to hardwood floors because it is much more easier to clean.

I still do use area rugs for accent and we have one in almost every room.

BTW, I can't wait to start having children and the dog my husband wants to get.... :)
