Christmas #3 with Family And Friends Come to Visit

| | Comments (1)

Yesterday we had our third Christmas celebration. This time with my dad and stepmother. They came to visit us for a couple of hours yesterday afternoon. We were supposed to have Christmas with them last Sunday, but the weather was very poor for a long drive up Interstate 81, so we postponed until this week.

We had a lovely lunch when they arrived. While I was making some sandwiches, the children showed Dad and Dianne their Guitar Hero game and Katrina played on the piano some. After good food and conversation, Katrina was ready to open presents.

Jack got his belated birthday present: a large pack of Pokemon cards...you can never have enough of those things! And then it was all about Pirates. He got a cool action stage that he can use his POTC figures with. Will comes out of the vat of water, Elizabeth swings on a moving beam, and Jack Sparrow can blow up the hut with fireworks. Okay, Jack was there at the beginning of the POTC 3 movie, but it's our house, so we can play the way we want to. He also got the Chinese guys pirate ship, a POTC jigsaw puzzle, pencils and candy. Katrina's theme was Hannah Montana and she was thrilled! A Hannah Montana doll and Hannah Montana's backstage closet...what more could a 7 year old want? She also got a Shrek coloring book, pencils and candy.

Daniel and I were given food for the birds (Dad gets a good deal on the food and I love to feed the birdies). We got a 3 disc set of Country Gospel songs and they gave us a gift card to Walmart...which I am looking foward to using!

We gave them books this year. I had found some humourous Appalachian books and a book on Angling for my dad (The Angling book is very cool as it has photos of scenes that probably doen't exist anymore, from back in the 50s and 60s. I gave my stepmother 4 different cookbooks. One on cooking wild game, one on making gourmet preserves, one on vegetables (growing them and preparing them), and one with some Florida cooking. The first three were ones that go along with her current cooking habits. The last one was a lark. There was a pirate on the front and what can I say? I love pirates:)

Today, Jack and Katrina have friends visiting from church and spending the night. They are a bit cooped up in our house as it is pouring down rain outside, but otherwise they seem okay. It is very important to me that my children have friends come to visit. When I was growing up, having friends come over seemed to require an act of congress on my part. Mom just wasn't up for the kid visits. Overall, Mom wasn't really much into kids. If my dad had had his way, there would have been a bunch or brother's and sister's for me, but my mom felt one was enough. I vowed that when I grew up, I wanted to have the house on the block where the kids came to play. You know...like in those Kool-aid commercials, where the big pitcher came busting through the fence while the kids were all playing in the yard? So I am enjoying the children playing and the occasional tiff I have to referee in. All is right with the world!
