Christmas Traditions Part 3 - Books

| | Comments (0)

First, I shared a treasured Christmas memory - as part of the Holiday Bundle Giveaway post.

Then I shared all of our favorite Christmas Cookie Recipes for your enjoyment.

Then I gave you the titles of our favorite Christmas movies in case you were looking for some new movies to watch this holiday season.

Today, I thought I would share our favorite Christmas books with you.

Both of my children are very good readers. Katrina, who is only 7 enjoys reading Nancy Drew Mysteries, Mary Kate and Ashley movies and other such books. So over the summer, we had to clean off her bookshelves so we could make room for her chapter book collection that was growing. We went through the golden books, the easy reader paperbacks and the beautiful picture books. We couldn't let those go, so we put them in a box and packed them up for when Jack and Katrina have children of their own.

What we realized tonight, was that a lot of our Christmas stories are no longer here, they are packed away in that box at my mom's. So Frosty, Rudolph, Santa's Surprise, Poky's Christmas and some others will have to slumber for awhile.

However, we have some good ones still available to read.

Can It Be True? by Susan Hill with pictures by Angela Barrett (a story about Jesus with lovely pictures)

The Steadfast Tin Soldier illustrated by Fred Marcellino. I have loved this bittersweet story since I was a child.

Santa and the Christ Child by Nicholas Bakewell. I was given a figurine of Santa kneeling by the baby Jesus. Then I found it was linked to this story. I love this book and it really brings home what Christmas is all about.

The Littlest Angel by Charles Tazewell - this is absolutely one of my favorite books. I love the story of The Littlest Angel and the gift he gave to honor the Baby Jesus. If you have never read this one, be sure to read it this holiday season!

The Night Before Christmas illustrated by Cheryl Harness - my in-laws purchased this book for my stepsons over 15 years ago. We still read it every Christmas Eve.

And of course we read the Nativity Story from the Bible.

Today, we picked up three other Christmas books to add to our holiday reading list. Our library only allows us to take three seasonal books at a time. Our choices this week were:

A Christmas Story by Brian Wildsmith

The Snow Speaks by Nancy White Carlstrom

Rocking Horse Christmas by Mary Pope Osborne
