WFMW: Daily Devotions, Book Review (101 Cups of Water) and a Giveaway!
UPDATE! Rebecca from Rebecca's Walk and Mamacita from Big Tall Fresh Air were the random winners of this giveaway! Thanks to all who commented and I wish I had more to give away!

Well, here we are...back to WFMW hosted by Shannon at Rocks In My Dryer!
I try to start my days with 30 minutes of devotional time. I have found that when I do, that the rest of my day runs more smoothly. Even though sometimes, I think that I should spend the time on it because I have a million other things to do and something won't get done if I do it, it never turns out that way. Everything else gets done and I feel more at peace while doing it. Now don't get me wrong, there are days, that my devotions get put off til lunch time, bed time or get missed completely, but my goal and what works best for me is to start my day off in the Word of God.
Here's what I am currently doing. I have a DK Illustrated Family Bible which I bought a a decade ago. I orginally purchased it to be our 'family bible' and I even wrote our marriage and the kids birthdays in the front like you read about pioneer families doing. But once I got to looking at it, I realized it wasn't a complete bible. Instead it takes the reader through the bible and in the margins of the passages it shares, there is information about the history of that time and archaeological finds that go along with it. At the time, I wasn't interested, but now I read a couple of pages each day just trying to get a better understanding of the time period in which the bible was written.
I also read from the bible. I am currently in 1 Kings. 1 Kings is hard...so many of the names are similar and I get lost trying to follow the kings of Judah and Israel. This is my fourth time reading through the Bible, i always gain insight into things I have missed or didn't understand before.
I jot prayers down in my prayer journal and share some early morning thoughts with my maker.
Then I read from a book about Christians for Inspiration. I have been reading an 1950s edition of The Guideposts Anthology. These are stories about real Christians and how they lived the lives that God set out for them and the consequences of that. Some of the stories absolutely give me the shivers and all of them inspire me in my daily walk. The next book on my agenda is 101 cups of water: relief and refreshment for the tired, thirsty soul by c. d. baker. Here's what it says on the back of the book:

For every time you've tried too hard, fell too far, or struggled too much, the refreshing cups in this book are reminders of God's infinite grace and mercy - and will renew you like cool, clear water after a long dry walk uphill.
"I've been a believing Christian since childhood," author C.D. Baker explains, "but it's my personal failures that have led me to the deep well of Grace."
So he poured his dashed hopes, broken dreams, haunting doubts, and paralyzing fear down that well and found all that's collected here - all that he, like you, needs for living with peace, joy, and purpose: cool cups of relief, comfort, revival, and sustenance.
I can't wait to take a sip in this book, but I have a rule about finishing what I started and I want to finishe the Guideposts book first, so this one will wait for me patiently for its turn as part of my morning devotions. Fortunately, just because I am waiting doesn't mean you have to. I am offering two copies of this wonderful book as giveaways so that you can start drinking up some inspiration right away. All you have to do is comment below. This giveway is only open to U.S. addresses, but if you are overseas and wish to pay the postage, I will be glad to send you the book if you want to enter and if you win. I will have a random drawing on January 30th at 6 pm.
If you can't wait to receive the book, you may purchase it here:

I've definitely noticed that when I read my scriptures in the morning the day goes by much smoother...also again if I read for a few minutes at night I sleep better. Thanks!
What a great way to start the day! Thanks for sharing your advice.
I've been on the lookout for a new devotional. I don't really like the one I've been using, so I tend not to want to use it! If I don't win this one, I'll have to check it out for purchase.
Thanks for hosting a giveaway - I'm almost done with my current study, and could use another one!
Count me in the drawing. Looks like a great book. Thanks.
