No Sugar Again, Cleaning, Clearing Out and Having Company...I am pooped!
Well, I am now almost completely through my third day of no sugar. I had no sugar yesterday. And I overcame another 'hurdle'. Yesterday was grocery day and I usually get us each a candy bar at the checkout. I got one for each of the kids. And I thought I might get myself a diet soda, but they didn't have any that were cold and caffeine free and since they didn't have what I wanted, I just thought to myself...hey, guess what, you don't have to substitute with something you don't want. Just walk away. So that's what I do.
For those fellow sugar addicts (or salt addicts or whatever) you know how when you can't get the 'sugar' of choice, you might substitute with something else trying to take the edge off. But it doesn't suit and it really doesn't touch the craving and you just eat more and more and more. So yesterday, what I wanted wasn't available, so I just skipped it. In the long run, that was much better for me. I did treat myself to some sugar free come so that if the urge to chew came over me, I would have some tasty gum. But so far the pack is unopened.
In addition to no sugar yesterday, I drank probably 1 1/2 gallons of water (I have a 32 oz water bottle I drink from, and I drank at least three of those yesterday). And I did my strength training exercises. Today, I got up and my morning got a little thrown off because I already had several comments on my WFMW post that I wanted to respond to, and my teenage neighbor needed a lift to the mail box, and I thought about not exercising, but then I got my ipod, put on my exercise clothes and shoes and did 30 minutes on the exercise bike. I am on my third or fourth bottle of water (I have been too busy to keep count). And I have had no sugar today and here it is 9:22 pm. We did have guests this evening for supper and I made brownies with peanut butter cups in them - and I didn't even lick the bowl or the whisk. I am so proud of me!
In addition to not eating sugar, exercising and homeschooling, we have been in cleaning up and clearing out mode. My daughter's 8th birthday is coming up and while my son prefers small items that don't take up much space (video games, books, and legos). My daughter likes big items like doll houses. So I laid it out for her. She needed to go through the things she had and make decisions about what she wanted and what she didn't. I also was fretted with my children's playroom. We have been collecting games and what not since my 21 year old stepson was 5. There is a lot of stuff in this house! So since late last week, we have been busy. We have taken approximately 6 garbage bags worth of puzzles, games, clothes, and toys to our church for an upcoming yard sale. We have taken about another 5 garbage bags of trash to the dump (broken toys, papers that had been shoved into drawers, games missing parts, puzzles missing pieces). And then I have probably another 30 items or so that they want me to try and sell for them. And I haven't yet gotten to Jack's room or my room. I think we are doing great! i was feeling a bit claustrophobic and this is really helping! I am so proud of the kids too.
Their cleaning up has made for more room in the playroom and in Katrina's room. She can now get into her top bunk (three bags of stuffed animals reside in the bottom of her closet now) We emptied two complete shelves out of the playroom and they are now setting up little homes there for their pokemon characters. All of the playmobil sets have been sorted and the proper people are with their proper set (I have no illustion it will stay that way, but it looks nice today). We cleaned out the craft closet and threw away a bunch of old playdough that resembled cement. Some even had crystals growing on it.
Then today, in addition to finishing up the cleaning of the playroom, we hung up Saint Patrick's Day decorations. i did some laundry. We had company come and visit for about 3 1/2 hours. We ate pizza and they ate brownies. And I vacuumed and we cleaned one of the bathrooms some. (hit the high spots as it were). Whew!
But you know what's really cool, is I am just brimming with energy. And you know why? Part of it is getting rid of stuff we don't need or that is at this point garbage, but a lot of it is getting that sugar out of my system and exercising! So if you haven't joined in on the 'no sugar plunge yet,' but you want too, there is no time like the present. If you have no idea what I am talking to, go to my previous post.
