WFMW: Save Time and Money Bagging Trash!

| | Comments (18) | TrackBacks (0)

Well, here we are...back to WFMW hosted by Shannon at Rocks in My Dryer! You can always find great tips at WFMW, so be sure to click the link and check out what other pearls of wisdom people are offering today!

My tip for today may be one you already use. I learned it a couple of years ago from my mother-in-law. When I take the trash bag out of my trash can, I don't just get out one bag to replace it. I grab several. I drop all but one into the bottom of the trash can. Then I put the remaining one into the trash can in the correct manner.

Then the next time I have to remove trash, there is a bag already in there and it saves a trip to the sink where I store the trashbags under. I do this with all of my trashcans. It only saves a few moments and steps, but those add up!

Two more trash tips:

1. For small trash cans, use the plastic bags from Walmart, Target, etc. They are free, abundant, and it is recycling.

2. Buy Simple Tie trashbags from Sam's. You get 300 in a box. They last forever!. They are better quality than most cheap bags and they are inexpensive. I believe I paid less than 10 dollars for them, but I have had them so long, I honestly forget!

Hope my tips today are of use to you! If you want to read my other WFMW posts, just go to my main page, scroll down and click on the WFMW category.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!

I wish that I could consistently remember to leave extra bags in the trash can. It really does help!

These are some of my favorite Trash Tips! I'm glad to know there's someone else out there who stores extra bags in the can.

Thanks for sharing!

Great tips!

I do the grocery bag trick with the bathroom trash cans and keep some in the van for trash as well as some in the diaper bag for icky clothes or stinky diapers.

Mine is up:

I do this, but I don't just put them in the bottom. I go a head and line the can. This way if anything leaks I have bags to catch it and less mess.

Great tips. I used to drop extra bags in my can but stopped a while ago. Thanks for the reminder!

Another tip for trash is to use tall bags if you are having issues with trash bags falling down into the trash cans when you put in items. The tall bags have enough overage to wrap over the sides of the trash can so it doesn't slip into the can. I do this!

I do this too, but I must say, every once in awhile when I reach down to grab a bag and I am met with a wet, slippery feeling (from a spill-over) I simply want GOD to return at THAT moment. Yuck. We just have a lot of spill-overs, I guess.

I always forget to do that! It is such a handy tip too. Thanks!

I have to admit, I came here wondering what 'trash time' was. I mean, I've heard of quality time and down time, but never 'trash time.' LOL, then I re-read the title: trash...time saver! Great idea!
I like to put clips on the edges of the bag to hold it on the can. Keeps it from slipping inside!

I used to do this too but haven't in a while. Thanks for the reminder! :)

Great tips! I already do this with the grocery bags and with my kitchen trash bags. Actually the last time I looked in the bottom of the kitchen trash basket, someone had put the whole roll of trash bags at the bottom of the basket!! LOL Definitely saves time not having to look for bags and even helps when you have little helpers doing the chore. :)

I've been doing this for years and it's great. Also to save money I use paper bags from the grocery (I change up paper and plastic each week) to line the plastic trashbag. I just take out the paper bag (they have handles to) and put into the can. Saves alot on buying trashbags.

Came to your post via a comment you left on my WFMW "lost/misplaced kids" and enjoyed your tip! I used to do this, but now my teenaged son is in charge of the trash. I'll pass the tip along to him- I'm sure he'll be thrilled ;-)

good tip! I can't remember if I thanked you for the 101 Cups devotional you sent to me. I love it! I read it to my husband and son every morning, too, so they get a cup, themselves. Thanks again so much. :)

Great tips. I will have to remind my husband to do that. :)

Thanks for the great tips. Isn't it funny how getting into little habits like that make the days go more smoothly? :)
