Movie Reviews: Sweeney Todd, Ark of Truth, I Am Legend, and The Mist

| | Comments (1)

Friday, Daniel and I got to watch some movies. Three of them were movies that I had been wanting to see since last fall and one was a movie we have been looking for in stores for a month. Nothing like a day full of movies and crocheting!

First we watched Stargate: The Ark of Truth. If you are a Stargate fan and watched all 10 seasons, you are going to love this movie that ties up a major story line and shows these characters all at their best and bravest. It is action packed and the effects are fantastic! The Stargate lovers in our household give this movie a two thumbs up!

Second we watched I Am Legend with Will Smith. I have never read the book this story is based on, but I saw The Omega Man as a child and it frightened me senseless. I enjoyed the movie, but my husband tells me the book had a better ending. I have always been fascinated by end of the world type movies. It is so very hard to imagine what it would be like to be one of a handful of those left. The solitude. The obstacles to overcome. We give this movie 1 thumb up. It was good. I enjoyed watching it. But Daniel wasn't crazy about it. Mainly the way it ended.

Third, we watched Sweeney Todd. I have been longing to see this movie since it came out as I am a huge Johnny Depp fan. And I couldn't wait to hear him sing based on what little I had heard during the commercials. But I also knew it was going to be a very gruesome movie. And I am not fond of gruesome movies. But I watched it. The cinematography and effects were incredible. The story was horrible (but in a good way...it was well written, it was just a horrifying idea). The music was incredible! While I am not sure if I will watch the movie again or not, I am definitely going to get the soundtrack. There are some amazing songs in it and I love Alan Rickman and Johnny Depp singing together. We give this movie a one thumb up. I loved the music, Daniel didn't think much of the movie even though he is the gruesome lover in the family.

Lastly we watched The Mist. I had really wanted to see this movie. I read the book years and years ago. I listened to a dramatized version of it 20 years ago on audio cassette. The creatures in the movie The Mist are every bit as terrifying as those in King's original story (well, I guess they are, monsters made up in the imagination can be pretty terrifying). I honestly don't remember how the book ended, and I need to go find my copy and reread it. The ending of this movie was shocking and left us with that 'kicked in the gut' feeling. We give this movie a two thumbs up!

So there you have it....our movie reviews for this week. I am reading some books that I will be reviewing next week and there will be giveaways, so be sure to stay tuned!

Hi, My younger daughter and I both like Depp. I am not sure I would like to watch a gruesome flick though. I will definately want to see it with my dear d so she can make fun of me closing my eyes. But like you said would love to hear him sing. I want to watch I Am Legend too even though I will be screaming as I watch it. No one here to watch it with though. My older son in Ca. would probably watch it so maybe when I visit there this summer. Blessings, and thanks for the reviews.
