Just Call Me John....
I watched the debate last night. Well, sort of. My dad called and talked to me during the beginning and I was listening but also trying to get caught up on some emails. It's hard to read and listen to something at the same time. But something struck me as I listened...Senator Obama called Senator McCain 'John' many times. I never heard Senator McCain call 'Barack'.
Now maybe I am a bit old school, but a Senator deserves the respect of having his title used. Senator Obama's frequent use of Senator McCain's first name seemed condescending to me.
What do you think?
He actually called him JIM at one point! John McCain started laughing!
I, too, think it was very impersonal. I LOVED watching the debate. I actually agree with both (alternately) on some issues. But overall, I'm a McCain girl.
September 27, 2008 9:11 PMI didn't really think about it. I did catch him call him Jim, though. But I guess part of Obama's "change" is the continued loss of respect for each other. He could have been doing it because he wanted to belittle him, or maybe it was because he is that much of an idiot. Hmm... can you tell I don't like him? ;-)
October 1, 2008 9:39 AMCall me a liberal, (proud and true!), but...
...last night's wonderful little VP debate had a similar theme. Palin kept calling Biden "Joe". She even slipped at one point and referred to him as "Obiden"...
You can root and cheer for the republican hockey mom hero from Alaska all you want -- but her being picked for VP candidate was just another McCain blunder.
Of course, given where I'm leaving this comment, I guess I'm just a "maverick" dissenter....
:-)
