Our New Pet
The last several mornings, we have gone out and found this lovely 4 point buck grazing in our yard. See the velvet on his antlers? He looked up once at me before I got my camera out, but then I couldn't get him to look up again. Perhaps I will get a better picture later this week.
He lets us get really close. I was standing less than 50 feet away when I took this photo.
Very nice! At least it wasn't "crazy" like the one found in our yard!

September 3, 2008 4:43 PMOh he's beautiful. I had one that roamed around here. He tore up several of my trees with his little antlers. I haven't seen him in the last 2 years.
September 4, 2008 10:30 AMIt's funny - my place-of-work's old office was in a basement on top of a mountain in a small neighborhood on the edge of Roanoke City. And we had a "pet" deer that would come around.
It ate all of the wild raspberries we had growing up there. And it would get as close as 10 or 15 feet. We would call out to him, and he would look up at us like we were crazy, and then go back to nibbling on things. We saw him twice a week for about a month and a half.
We affectionately called him "Comet". He was a 6-pointer, but still had plenty of velvet on those antlers...
